Medicare Clinic: Caring for Your Urgent Needs

Care when it's Urgent but not an emergency.

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (Medicare UCCs) give you and your family more options to see a doctor or nurse when you need urgent, but not life-threatening care.

General Care

Care provided by your local GP includes:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disease and illness
  • General screening and health check
  • Vaccinations and prescriptions
  • Mental health advice
  • Family planning services
  • Referrals for tests, scans or specialists care
  • Ongoing chronic disease care and health assessments

Emergency Care

If you or a loved one has a life-threatening injury or illness, do not attend a Medicare UCC. Call triple zero(000) or go to your nearest emergency department.

  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Breathing difficulties or Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Severe burns
  • Poisioning
  • Numbness or paralysis or unconsious
  • Unresponsive or having seizures
  • Ongoing fever in infants

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics give you and your family more options to see a doctor or nurse when you need urgent, but not life-threatening, care.

Urgent Care

Medicare UCCs will refer you to the emergency department if you have a life threatening injury or illness, or to your GP for non- urgent, routine and preventative health care.

  • Minor infections
  • Minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and sudden onset neck and back pain
  • Urinary tracts infections (UTIs)
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Minor cuts, insect bites and rashes, mild burns
  • Minor eye and ear infections
  • Respiratory illness
  • Gastroenteritis

If you or a loved one has a life-threatening injury or illness, call Triple Zero(000) or go to your local hospital’s emergency department.
